Cultivar: Yabukita
Origin: Ujitawara, Kyoto, Japan
About This Tea
This asamushi sencha comes from Ujitawara, Kyoto, one of Japan’s oldest tea-growing areas and a region closely tied to the development of traditional sencha. Located in a mountainous zone near Uji, Ujitawara’s cooler temperatures and seasonal mist support slow, steady leaf growth, contributing to depth and balance in the finished tea.
Light steaming, or asamushi, is well suited to teas from this region. By keeping steaming brief, the leaves retain much of their original structure, resulting in a clearer liquor and a more transparent expression of the cultivar and growing conditions. Compared to deeper-steamed styles, asamushi sencha from Ujitawara tends to highlight sweetness, structure, and layered savoriness rather than density.
Made from Yabukita and processed without blending, this tea reflects how the cultivar, the region, and the steaming style come together in a clean and restrained cup—one that opens gradually across multiple infusions.
Experience
Sweet and balanced, with broth-like savoriness and gentle nuttiness.
Medium-bodied with a clean, minty finish.
Flavor may shift slightly across infusions, revealing different layers with each brew.
