Origin: Ei, Kagoshima, Japan
Special Processing: Roasted

About This Matcha

TSUYUHIKARI (Roasted Matcha) is a single-cultivar matcha made from shade-grown tencha, following the same core process as regular matcha—with one additional step: roasting before milling.

Tsuyuhikari is a cultivar known for its clarity, natural sweetness, and relatively low bitterness. In Kagoshima, where warmer temperatures and longer growing seasons support vigorous leaf growth, Tsuyuhikari tends to develop fuller aroma and a softer, rounder profile compared to cooler regions. These conditions make it well-suited to treatments that emphasize warmth and depth.

After shading, steaming, and drying, the tencha is gently roasted, then milled into a fine powder. This added step shifts the character of the matcha, softening grassy notes and emphasizing warmth, depth, and comfort while still retaining a green appearance.

Ei, Kagoshima is known for its progressive tea production and willingness to explore new expressions of green tea. This matcha reflects that approach—grounded in proper matcha processing, yet open to variation.

As with other single-cultivar matcha, this product is unblended. What you taste comes from the cultivar, the region, and the processing choices.

Single cultivar matcha is typically more expensive due to smaller production volumes and limited flexibility compared to blends. This does not imply superiority—only greater specificity.
