About This Matcha
OKUMIDORI is a single-cultivar matcha made entirely from the Okumidori variety, grown in Yame, Fukuoka—one of Japan’s most established tea-producing regions. Yame is known for its long tea-growing history, mountainous terrain, and cool, misty conditions that support slow leaf development and deeper flavor concentration.
Okumidori is a cultivar often valued for its natural smoothness and rich green color. Compared to more widely planted cultivars, it tends to produce matcha with softer bitterness, fuller mouthfeel, and a calm, rounded profile. When used on its own, the cultivar’s character becomes more apparent, shaped by the growing environment and harvest conditions.
Unlike blends—which are designed for balance and repeatability—single cultivar matcha reflects the specific interaction between one cultivar, one place, and one harvest. This matcha is offered without blending or adjustment, allowing the natural expression of Okumidori from Yame to come through as it is.
Single cultivar matcha is typically more expensive due to smaller production volumes and limited flexibility compared to blends. This does not imply superiority—only greater specificity.
Experience
No noticeable bitterness, with a creamy and savory profile. Nutty character with subtle chocolatey notes. A slight grittiness may be present due to the milling process.
Experience may vary slightly depending on preparation and water.
