About This Matcha

OKUMIDORI is a single-cultivar matcha made entirely from the Okumidori variety, grown in Ei, Kagoshima, a southern tea-growing region known for its warm climate and volcanic soils. Compared to northern tea regions, Kagoshima’s conditions allow for earlier harvests and vigorous leaf growth, contributing to fuller aromas and deeper color development.

Okumidori is a cultivar often associated with richness and smoothness. When processed as matcha and left unblended, it tends to show a dense, creamy body and a rounded flavor profile with minimal sharpness. In Kagoshima, the cultivar’s character is shaped by the region’s climate and farming practices, resulting in a matcha with depth and presence.

Unlike blends—which are designed for balance and repeatability—single cultivar matcha reflects the specific interaction between one cultivar, one place, and one harvest. This matcha is offered without blending or adjustment, allowing Okumidori from Kagoshima to express itself as it is.

Single cultivar matcha is typically more expensive due to smaller production volumes and limited flexibility compared to blends. This does not imply superiority—only greater specificity.

Storage & Handling

Seal it tight – Store in an airtight container to protect flavor and aroma. Double-sealing is recommended.
Keep it dark – Use an opaque container to prevent color loss.
Avoid heat – Store in a cool, dry place. If refrigerated, seal well to prevent odor absorption.
Daily portioning – Transfer daily use into a smaller sealed container to reduce exposure.
