Choosing the right matcha matters.
For us, it’s not about chasing trends or adding products for the sake of variety.
It’s about making decisions we can stand behind—because those choices affect how cafés use matcha every day, and how confident we are in what we offer.
When we choose matcha, we look at a few key things.
Why choosing the right matcha matters
Choosing the right matcha empowers us as a supplier.
It gives us confidence that what we offer is not just good on paper, but actually valuable and useful for our café partners—whether it’s for daily service, menu development, or long-term use.
If we can’t confidently use it ourselves, we won’t offer it.
Price: it has to work for business
Matcha has to make sense financially.
We consider pricing carefully, because cafés don’t just buy matcha to taste it—they buy it to build drinks, price menus, and run a sustainable business.
A matcha can be well-made, but if it doesn’t allow café owners to remain profitable, it doesn’t belong in our lineup.
Quality: pure, properly made, and workable
Quality isn’t just about taste—it’s about how matcha is produced and how it performs.
We look for matcha that:
-
is pure (no blends with fillers or additives)
-
follows proper matcha production:
-
tea plants are shaded
-
leaves are steamed
-
dried and deveined into tencha
-
ground into matcha
Beyond process, it also needs to be workable for café use.
The matcha we select should be suitable for:
-
artisanal drinks
-
signature beverages
-
culinary applications
If it can’t be used in cafés, we don’t carry it.
Source: trust matters
We only work with sources we trust.
That means farms, producers, or partners who are transparent about how their tea is grown and processed. We avoid dubious or unclear sources, even if the product looks appealing.
Trust is non-negotiable—for us and for the cafés we work with.
A growing lineup, chosen with care
Our lineup grows slowly and intentionally.
Each matcha we add earns its place by meeting these criteria—not because it’s trendy, limited, or hyped, but because it serves a purpose.
That’s how we choose matcha, and that’s how we continue to build Matcha Moments.
